Title: Do you believe in Fairy Tales?
Recorded: In my home studio.

Comments: "This is the first studio band recording since Hunting for fairies again, and highlights the talents of Dave Bulbeck on bass and Deano Elson on Sax. I'm really pleased to have finished this, as I really enjoyed the creative process of building the tracks. Deano's double sax part on DYB I think is a highlight."

Write up: (Written 20th September 2007)

I laboured long and hard over this and disappeared up my own backside for a while with it. The idea came about after a trip to southern Ireland that I should have a radio friendly single to chuck about. I didn't really want to go into a studio on a low budget, and I'd done a low fi album, so, I set to it and put together a home studio and started recording. After a few false starts everything went well and I ended up with three songs that sounded good. Then started the constant round of over listening and tearing them apart until I had gone off the idea completely. That was about five years ago, and they have sat all that time unreleased. Well, finally I thought, sooner or later you have to let go and let other people decide if they like it or not and let the recording have a life of it's own. So here it is. See what you think.

Songs:

Do you believe in fairy tales?
Although this had already appeared on an album, the idea of the single was to take three songs that people had asked about a lot, and give them a full band studio treatment. So, this one started off as nice guitar, bass, percussion, sax piece, until I accidently double tracked Deano's sax, and hey presto a very happy accident!

Cool water.
This song has always been an enigma to me. I wrote it a ten or eleven years ago, loved it, and then decided that the writing wasn't good enough. However, when ever it was played at a gig, people loved it, and people were asking about it, so it had to go on the record. This version has drums and Dave's cracking funky bass line to help it along.

We were meant to be.
A bit of a weepy to end with. This hasn't been in the set for many years, but it had been a favourite of a few people so made it onto the CD. This is a very early song, in fact, if I remember correctly this was one of the first songs I ever wrote, back in college.
