Write
up:(written 20th September 2007)
We were playing
as a trio as part of a line up put together by Stiff Promotions at
the 12 Bar Club, in Soho, London. It was a great night and we had
a lot of fun. Before going on the sound man asked me if I would like
him to record the set and I said yes, thinking that it's always useful
to hear what you really sound like! I thought no more about it until
afterwards when he gave me a mini disc. To my surprise I found that
the although slightly rough (it had been recorded straight off the
desk) it did capture the gig nicely, and better than most bootlegs
sound.
It also did me good to hear it, because, although I know that Dave
and Deano are bloody good, it was good to remind myself just how good
they really are. Thanks guys!
Songs:
Small
blue boat.
This song was written when we were renting a flat next to Petersfield
lake. I think of all the places I have lived this has to be my favourite.
Stepping outside everyday and seeing the lake was just wonderful.
Any way, I wrote this song around a boat that was always there on
the lake. It was different to all of the other hire boats, and I guess
that's partly the meaning of the song; a metaphor for getting through
life.
Paradise.

Hindsight.
This person on the song is pleading with someone not to leave, and
to remember what they had together. Dave and Deano do a wonderful
job on this song and make it a highlight of the album.
Fancy meeting you.
This is about bumping in to someone that you're not over yet. I like
songs to say things as simple as possible, and this is a two chord
song if you ignore the hammer on! Despite that it is nice and strong
rhythmically, and I love playing it.
Annie Claire.
I always bill this as a song about all the beautiful women I've met
but never had the nerve to ask out, which is basically true. There
is a good chance that this is the second song I ever wrote, way back
when I was at college. It didn't make it into the set for years, as
I thought that I had obviously moved on as a songwriter, only to go
back and find that I love playing it, especially with Dave and Deano.
End of the evening.
